Child of the Week : Shane

Shane-002Children right here in the Quad City area need you. Over 100 children are waiting to be matched with a community mentor. These children face various adversity, but Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters helps by matching each child with a caring adult. Is it time for you to volunteer eight hours per month to give a child a better life?

Meet Shane, a 9 year old boy currently living with his father and grandfather. Shane has recently moved into the area and would like to make friends. He is doing well in school and has good relationships with his teachers, but needs a patient Big Brother who can help with social interactions. A Big Brother could also introduce Shane to the many wonderful opportunities our area of Arizona offers.

As a mentor you would spend time, two or three days per month, with your “Little”. Activities do not need to be expensive. For instance, Shane would like to go swimming, bowling, or throw a Frisbee with his Big Brother. He has an interest in World War II aircraft and vintage cars. Shane also enjoys drawing and painting. Although Shane is not interested in playing sports, he does enjoy watching football and hockey.

If you are ready to step up and mentor Shane or another child, and to join our elite and impactful group of Bigs, contact YBBBS at 778-5135, go to www.azbigs.org, or Like us on Facebook.
