Match of the Month: Jacob & Stuart

Jacob-and-Stuart-webJacob and Stuart are prime examples of what is possible through Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters. Illustrated below is their unique match story which has grown over a 2 year span.

Originally, Jacob (13) needed a stable friend he could count on, and Stuart realized he had some free time and wanted to share his interests with a child in need. Big Brother Stuart says, “We basically clicked from the beginning, he is a beautiful kid.”

An authentic friendship described as the “perfect fit”, these two buddies are constantly poking fun at each other. Stuart says, “Jacob always shows me respect.” They do activities such as fishing, basketball, kayaking, mini golfing, and going to the movies. Not only do Jacob and Stuart plan their own outings, but they also attend YBBBS events such as Laser Tag, Aviation Day, and Bowl for Kids’ Sake.

Both Jacob and Stuart play instrumental roles in each other’s lives. Since being matched with Stuart, Jacob has improved in school as well as socially. Jacob says, “I really enjoy our relationship, and wouldn’t change a thing!” Of course, his Big Brother concurs by saying, “Jacob is an important part of my life, and I continue learning as he gets older.”

What if 8 hours a month and an extra seatbelt in your car could change a child’s life? What if it could change yours as well? Many of our volunteers are finding that being a mentor not only benefits a child, but it also provides clarity to their own lives.
